[gingery_machines] Casting with play sand

 

Although I haven't used it for casting yet, I bought a few bags of HD's white "High Desert Play Sand", then dried it and strained through WalMart's grease spatter shield. It's a fine mesh, so the resultant sand has a pretty small, even particle size. Mixed with bentonite and water, it looks like it ought to do it. I just built the flask for the lathe bed casting, and haven't made a pattern for it yet. I'll post my results. Meanwhile, has anyone else tried play sand?
