Randy, I've done castings with play sand. Chris Bailey uses it, and I used his. I've got the materials to make my own, just need to that round 'tuit.
Works well. I can post a pic of the items I've cast with it, if you'd like, or PM them to you. Decent but not spectacularly good surface finish.
