From what I have read, the iron on T-shirt prints transfer the color into
the fibers of the shirt where it stays. This is why the shirts can be washed
without loss of the picture. This process wouldn't work for metal.

I looked at the group and it reminded me of something. I had a T-shirt
made for my wife using laser transfer from a copy machine. It has been
very durable and is still legible.
My image was photo copied in the normal fashion onto used transfer
paper. (They throw this away at places that print t-shirts from
transfers.) It was then transferred to the shirt with a normal press in
the usual way.
