Union denies ending boycott is political

PHOENIX - With its endorsed candidates under pressure, leaders of state's largest grocery union on Thursday called off its boycott of Arizona.
James McLaughlin, president of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 99, said in a prepared statement that the boycott calls followed the April decision of Gov. Jan Brewer to sign what was billed as the toughest state immigration law in the country. He said that is no longer necessary because a federal judge barred the state from enforcing "the most problematic provisions" of SB 1070. McLaughlin said that injunction paves the way for a calmer discussion of the issues.
He acknowledged that the injunction was issued in late July but denied that the decision by UFCW International to rescind the call now was the result of the political buffeting that both the union and those it supports are taking.

Arizona's Brewer: 'We Want Our Borders Secure'
Though the Obama administration is challenging Arizona's tough anti-immigration law, the measure has proved popular across the nation, says Gov. Jan Brewer. Donations to help defend it now total $3.7 million. "We want our borders secure, and we want to stop the flow of illegal immigrants," Brewer tells Newsmax.TV.

IMPORTANT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

By Rep. Sue Myrick

An indictment was handed down Aug. 30 by the Southern District Court of New York that shows a connection between Hezbollah - the proxy army of Iran and a designated terrorist organization - and the drug cartels that violently plague the U.S.-Mexico border.

In short, a well-known international arms dealer was trying to orchestrate an arms-for-drugs deal in which cocaine from FARC - the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, which works with Mexican drug cartels to take cocaine into America - would be traded for thousands of weapons housed by a Hezbollah operative in Mexico.

This most recent case brings up several questions:

Why would a member of Hezbollah be in Mexico?
Why would Hezbollah need thousands of weapons in Mexico?
Why are members of Hezbollah willing to work with FARC?
Perhaps to exchange weapons for drugs?
If Hezbollah has guns in Mexico and wants drugs, isn't it logical to assume that it is trading with more accessible Mexican drug cartels?

Mini-Documentary Examines Drug Cartel Travel Methods

WASHINGTON (September 28, 2010) – Today the Center for Immigration Studies released the third film in a series, "Hidden Cameras on the Arizona Border 3: A Day in the Life of a Drug Smuggler," at an event hosted by the Center for Immigration Studies and Women in Homeland Security. This is the Center's National Security Director Janice Kephart's third web-based border film, this time focusing on drug cartel travel methods through Arizona's federally owned land. Ms. Kephart obtained much of the footage for the film by traveling with her hidden camera guide into three drug running corridors in central Arizona. She was joined on the panel by Julie Myers Wood, former Assistant Secretary for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Department of Homeland Security.

Hidden Cameras 3 exposes the ways and means of the illicit drug trade by specifically honing in on how drug mules successfully move 50 pound packs of marijuana through desert heat on foot into Arizona desert and 80 miles north of the U.S.-Mexican border until they reach the east-west I-8 corridor. The film also includes hidden camera footage taken at night of drug mules moving quickly to meet a load truck on the I-8 highway.

Ms. Kephart's second film in the series released in July 2010, "Hidden Cameras on the Arizona Border 2: Drugs, Guns and 850 Illegal Aliens," with extensive hidden camera footage of drug smugglers and illegal aliens, has received extensive press coverage on FOX National News and affiliates, radio and print news, and over 540,000 YouTube views. The Center's first video on the subject, "Hidden Cameras on the Arizona Border: Coyotes, Bears, and Trails," focuses on the illegal alien traffic and immense negative environmental impact on the Coronado National Forest from illegal alien smuggling and has received over 70,000 views to date.

Illegal aliens scamming taxpayers, receiving millions in unemployment benefits
On September 14, four men were indicted by a federal grand jury in Las Vegas for recruiting illegal aliens to apply for unemployment benefits and laundering the money they received over a two-year period.
Francisco Garcia, 40, Eloy Garcia, 32, Efrain Garcia, 40, and Nabor Garcia, 32, were all charged with one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud and 21 counts of mail fraud. Francisco Garcia is also charged with four counts of money laundering and six counts of false representation of a Social Security Number; Eloy Garcia is charged with one count of money laundering and making a false declaration in and in relation to a bankruptcy proceeding; and Nabor Garcia is charged with a single count of money laundering.
Last week, Francisco and Nabor Garcia were taken into custody, while the other two remain at large.
According to the Nevada U.S. Attorney's Office, the four defendants recruited illegal aliens with the promise to assist them in obtaining unemployment benefits in exchange for a share of the money.
A press release from U.S. Attorney Daniel Bogden's office states:
"When the unemployment claims were accepted, the State provided the benefits through debit cards or checks mailed to addresses that the defendants controlled. The defendants allegedly told the claimants that their unemployment claims were not accepted, when in fact they had been. In some cases, the defendants allegedly provided the claimants with a portion of the benefits, and told the claimants that their claims had stopped paying, when in fact the State had continued to pay the claims.
As a result of the conspiracy, the defendants are alleged to have fraudulently obtained over $2.3 million in unemployment benefits through the State of Nevada. "

Small-town mayor stoned to death in western Mexico

Source: Reuters

MEXICO CITY, Sept 27 (Reuters) - The mayor of a small town in western Mexico was found on Monday stoned to death in the third attack on a public official in the country in less than a week, local authorities said.
The bodies of Gustavo Sanchez, mayor of Tancitaro in Michoacan state, and an aide were found, officials said.
"It appears they stoned them to death," a source from the local prosecutor's office said on condition of anonymity.
Local media reported that the bodies were found in the back of a flat-bed truck.
There was no immediate indication whether the killings were related to drug violence. More than 29,000 people have been killed in violence between rival drug cartels and between cartels and state security forces since President Felipe Calderon launched his offensive on cartels in 2006.
On Friday, a mayor-elect in northern Chihuahua state was shot in the head and chest by suspected drug hitmen, leaving him in critical condition.
A day earlier, armed men killed the mayor of a town outside Mexico's northern business city of Monterrey.

3 stabbed in bizarre abduction of several people in Morristown

MORRISTOWN (WATE) - Three people were stabbed in Morristown Friday night in an incident involving more than 20 people who say they were held against their will.

When Morristown police arrived shortly after 8 p.m. at West Wind Apartments on West Andrew Johnson Highway they discovered a chaotic scene.

Two stabbing victims were taken to Morristown Hamblen Hospital . The other was flown by Lifestar to UT Medical Center. All three received non-life threatening injuries.

The victims' names have not been released.

Officers say that 20 or more men at the scene say they were carjacked or solicited in various locations.

Some of the victims were taken into an apartment against their will. Others arrived at the apartment after being solicited. All say they were then taken to a bedroom and tied up. Their money and identification were stolen.

The victims said they were taken there by six Hispanic males who had handguns and knives.

Elaine French was home when it happened. She lives next door to the apartment where the violence broke out.

"Before I knew it, the police were here and they were asking questions," said French. "They asked me if I heard any gunshot and I said no. He said there's an awful lot of blood over there."

"In my experience so far, I've never encountered anything like this," said Morristown Police Officer Brian Sulfridge.

Detectives are now trying to determine the identities of the six suspects. They said all of the suspects are still considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Morristown Police Department at (423) 585-4630.
