They started out as black pipe too but I have a friend with a with a 40"
lathe so we skimmed a the black coat off. I had to do some decorative
brass and didn't want the rough pipe imprinting onto it.

Like _all_ Gingery (Dave and Vince) projects they are designed a bit on
the light side. But having said that, I learned so much by building them
that I would still recommend them to anyone.
