I finished remachining the XY compound vise and lapped all ways. I did a
pair of light cuts on the edge of a piece of 1/8" thick aluminum to test how
close to perpendicular I got the X versus Y ways. The result was an error of
1/2 a thou in 2". Of course there is nothing I can due for the light duty of
the compound but at least it is more accurate now and has a nice, smooth
action. I did not refit the vise jaws but instead made a pair of
parallelogram T nuts that drop in the top slot. The T nuts were cut from a
pair of scrap ways from the compound.
