Yes, there is a fixed side and a movable side. This is a mixed blessing. It
makes adjusting the gib easy but the movable side lifts up a little bit as
force is applied and the only adjustment is with shims on the underside.
The articulated crank is an illusion. They do have a pivot pin but the slot
in the end of the rod has been crushed to lock the crank into position.
However, with proper orientation of the XY compound, there is plenty of
clearance.

Am I seeing correctly that one whole side of the ways were moveable (to
lock)? If not, how did you "close up" the dovetails?
I have one like Nick posted. I see the articulated cranks on yours are an
improvement. The X crank on mine must over-hang the table to operate.
