Hi Randy,
I have NOT built the lathe, but seems like the favorite mods for bed are:
Consider making wider - 4" is popular.
Consider the mill bed design.
Make thicker &/or taller sections if you can melt more metal to fill them.
Screw a second plate to bottom of bed to form a box structure & stiffen bed. This plate is only as wide as bed, and may be 1/8 or 3/16" thick.
Thicker ways are also popular.
One CAUTION -- each mod requires many mating parts to be redesigned!!
I haven't seen a file w/ lathe mods, but there are many discussions in the message archives if you can get search to work. May take some sifting through messages, but I know there are a couple of mod lists in there!!
Hope it helps,
CT2

If there's a FAQ on just this topic, feel free to flame me, as long as you provide a link to it. If not, then should it be longer, wider, heavier, or is it just right as it is?
