If you watched the you tube bed pour then you will see how heavy the crucible was and how hard it was to control the pour! I would recommend trying out a crucible full of sand as a test pour on those larger crucibles. A helper and a two man shank is not a bad idea!
Adding another steel to the bottom of the bed will also add some weight and make a stiffer bed. I believe there is an example in the files section something like 24 Hp Gingery lathe! He made a nice looking machine!
