Should work fine.
These alloys have been used by several lathe manufactures.
Mostly wood lathe.
My understanding as to why it is not done for metal lathes
is because the movement of the metal.
AL will move (expand / contract) more than cast iron or
steel. This effects the ability of the chuck to hold a true
center.
On smaller lathes this should be less of an issue. I doubt
the movement on a Gingery lathe would exceed the lathes
accuracy any way. :)
Of course the usual concern about safety with home castings
should be considered. Examine the part to make sure it is
truly solid with no stress cracks and so on... :)
