Thanks, Rod,
I went the Sherline route, on the cheap and spent more in the long run.
I bought a used manual mill and headstock less the motor. I have had 5
or 6 motors on it and never had one I really liked. The best was from a
vacuum cleaner beater bar. Very strong, but noisy as hell.
I made stepper mounts and then later bought the Sherline stepper mounts.
Always had trouble with the tiny lead screws, even after replacing them
with new ones.
And then there is the size. It was always just a little too small. I'm
sure I will find things I want to do with the Taig that will be to
large, also. But I have a larger manual mill for that.
It will be nice to have a dependable cnc mill. Every time i wanted to
use the Sherline, I had to do something to it first.
