Sounds like a fantastic project, plus expensive!
On a more mundane level I have posted some photos under NormanV.
My furnace, bog standard to the original design but I sometimes use an extension piece to allow the use of my taller crucible. It held just enough metal for me to cast the bed. I wish that I could find some larger diameter tube to make a fatter crucible then I wouldn't need the extension.
I recently melted down a couple of wheels and an engine crankcase on a bonfire, I then melted down the resulting mixture of aluminium, charcoal and ashes to make a rather pleasing pile of ingots.
As you will see from the last photo I have now got a few castings done and my next task is to scrape down the ways to fit the saddle.
Tomorrow instead of watching the royal wedding I might cast the topslide parts.
