Just to reinforce what is being said here I work on a number of CNC controlled machines at work. HTD belts are very very good and extremely durable. You will wear out ball screws before properly sized HTD belts fail.
The only thing I might suggest beyond what is stated below is to use some sort of taper lock pulley in high torque or shock implementations. Well that and properly size the belt.
