There are lots of folks around where I live that load their own
ammunition. they love hunting and target shooting
as a sport, and if you don't reload your own brass, it becomes a very
expensive hobby.
Making your own projectiles, reduces the cost a bit more. Plus the
process of casting is fun on it's own.
Adding shooting, reloading, and casting is pretty much a complete cycle.
I don't know anyone that makes their own powder, but where I live is
in the 'South' in the US, and a couple of
miles from here was a powder mill that was not taken over by the North
or South, because both sides
purchased powder from them. (Eventually Dow purchased the plant and
closed it down in the 1960's).
Personally, I don't shoot and don't currently own a gun of any kind (I
did at one time). I have nothing
against guns of any kind, when used responsibly. I know many people
in the area that have legal carry permits
too.
