Yes, casting is such good fun that I find myself looking around for things to make by casting. I've made knobs for a large format camera that I am building as well as my lathe plus several other things.
As a Design and Technology teacher I am currently doing a jewellery project with my year 8 students casting low melting point pewter using a variety of moulds such as MDF, plaster of paris, sea shells, lost wax castings etc. I have found it to be very educational, I'm not so sure about the kids.
I find aluminium casting much more fun but probably too dangerous to let the kids loose on it.
Post some pictures of the helicopter.
I'm sorry to hear about your uncle.
