Hi Rick,
You are using a piece of angle to form the 45 degree angle on the fixed jaw. The 45 degree angle can then only be 1/2 the width of the fixed jaw. If instead you used a 45 degree wedge the full width of the fixed jaw then the clamping problem would be resolved.
