Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, along with hundreds of people offered funeral prayers in absentia(Gayibana Nimaaz Jinaza) for slain Al-Qaeda leader, Osama Bin Laden, after Friday prayers in uptown Batamaloo here.
Addressing a massive gathering after the funeral prayers, Geelani once again paid tributes to Osama and flayed the United States for burying him at sea. "Muslim scholars and clerics across the globe have condemned this shameful act of the US and thousands have offered absentia funeral prayers for Osama bin Laden just as we had gathered here," he said.
On the occasion, Geelani also prayed for the "safety and progress of Pakistan," saying that country's "enemies" were hell bent on "destroying its nuclear capabilities."
He said humans had brought sufferings and miseries upon themselves by following an "unjust system."
"When power, military, arms, population, and technology come in the hands of morally corrupt people, they use force ruthlessly to establish hegemony over others; they divide humans on the basis of region, language, colour, etc. It's the responsibility of youth to strive for empowering God-fearing, humanity-loving, honest and just people, who will not promote evil practices or moral waywardness," he said.
Geelani reiterated that until the "foreign occupation of Muslims in Palestine, Kashmir, Iraq, Afghanistan and other places doesn't end, peace would remain a distant dream."
He asked India to fulfill the promises made to Kashmiris on international forums and allow the people of Jammu and Kashmir to exercise the right to self determination.
"India boasts of huge participation of people in elections here. If they are so sure about Kashmiris being with them let a plebiscite be held in Jammu and Kahsmir," he said.
The Hurriyat leader also appealed youth to inculcate "Islamic character" and desist from "immoral activities" while calling for an end to co-education system.
"Youth should develop an Islamic character, desist from smoking, wine, moral waywardness and respect your elders. Co-education should be banned and separate educational institutions for girls and boys established," he said.
Condemning the arrest and detention of youth in jails across the state, Geelani demanded their immediate release.
Meanwhile, senior Hurriyat(M) leader and chairman Democratic Freedom Party, Shabir Ahmad Shah, also offered Osama's absentia funeral prayers at Iqra Masjid, Saraibala. Shah later led a pro-Osama rally in the area.
Strongly condemning Osama's sea burial, Shah said the act had shown United State's "cowardice."
"One can disagree with the methods of Osama bin Laden, but the manner in which his body was buried at sea and not handed over to Muslims shows America's cowardice," he said.
Shah said Osama was one of the "richest men" in Arab world, but couldn't bear "the atrocities being committed against Palestinians, Aghanis, Iraqis, and other Muslim countries under occupation."
"He fought against political slavery of Muslims," he said.
Meanwhile, reports said, absentia funeral prayers for Osama were also held at Jamia Masjid Sopore and in high court complex here.

Hurriyat (M) is supposed to be the Moderate wing of the Hurriyat as opposed to the Hardline wing dominate by Geelani. However when it comes to honouring Osama Bin Laden as a great Muslim they are both going out of their way to pray for him and demonstrate against his death at the hands of the Americans.
When they say 'he fought against political slavery of Muslims' it shows the Islamic supremacism underlying even the so-called moderates worldview. Muslims can rule over Hindus but Muslims cannot be a minority in a democracy with a non-Muslim majority as this is 'political slavery'.
These are like Maududi Islamic supremacists:

Non-Muslims
The rights of non-Muslims are limited under Islamic state as laid out in Maududi's writings. Although non-Muslim "faith, ideology, rituals of worship or social customs" would not be interfered with, non-Muslims would have to accept Muslim rule.
JihadIslamic 'Jihad' does not recognize their right to administer State affairs according to a system which, in the view of Islam, is evil. Furthermore, Islamic 'Jihad' also refuses to admit their right to continue with such practices under an Islamic government which fatally affect the public interest from the viewpoint of Islam."[25]
Because Islam is all-encompassing, Maududi believed that the Islamic state should not be limited to just the "homeland of Islam". It is for all the world. 'Jihad' should be used to eliminate un-Islamic rule and establish this Islamic state:
Islam wishes to destroy all states and governments anywhere on the face of the earth which are opposed to the ideology and programme of Islam regardless of the country or the Nation which rules it. The purpose of Islam is to set up a state on the basis of its own ideology and programme, regardless of which nation assumes the role of the standard-bearer of Islam or the rule of which nation is undermined in the process of the establishment of an ideological Islamic State. Islam requires the earth—not just a portion, but the whole planet .... because the entire mankind should benefit from the ideology and welfare programme [of Islam] ... Towards this end, Islam wishes to press into service all forces which can bring about a revolution and a composite term for the use of all these forces is 'Jihad'. .... the objective of the Islamic ' Jihād' is to eliminate the rule of an un-Islamic system and establish in its stead an Islamic system of state rule.[29]
