Nelson and Malcolm,
Actually, I just welded up what Malcolm suggested. It does work but in order to get the movable jaw force squarely on the part, I had to go with a rather large piece of angle. The result is that I must open the jaws all the way in order to cut a piece of 2" bar. However, Malcolm's design does go on and come off faster than my prototype.
The "pain" really is in moving the fixed jaw. The movable jaw does pivot on its bolt. I also found that I didn't have to cut the movable jaw.
I'll add a few pictures to the article to show how the idea has evolved.
Rick

Rick said quote "But it is such a pain to move these jaws. So
instead I quickly made up a pair of softjaws that hold the bar stock at 45
degrees." I think myself that Rick's solution is better than making any adjustments and I'll be a betting that Rick's can go from 90 degree to 45 degree and back to a 45 quicker than you can adjust you clamp. I one that if I do not need to move it why should I? And the speed of that soft-jaws add, Rick can put it on the shelf until the next time. Hats off to you Rick.
