First let me say nothing is impossible. However that doesn't mean certain paths are recommended.
The problem with building out of stock material is that you more or less need a machine shop to start with. That is you would need to be able to machine components for the head stock and tail stock. In this case I imagine a machine built with big chunks of steel as your desire to avoid welding doesn't help either.
On top of all of that bolted together parts are not unitized the way cast parts are or even weldments for that matter.
Now all of that being said it really depends upon your final usage if the machine will be viable. Well that and the materials you ultimately use to construct the machine. You see there are a wide range of materials you could potentially bolt together some of which will work better that others. So your best bet is to throw your ideas out here and get comments from the forum members.
