BLee,
I failed to mention one great casting resource in town: Porter-Warner. They are near University and, IIRC, 24th street. They make their own petrobond there for very reasonable price. I bought my refractory, fire bricks there too. Amazing technical support even though they normally are selling this stuff by the truckload and not to hobbyists. They do have a $50 minimum last I checked.
There is also an art place on the north west side that sells pottery furnace materials and spare parts. I bought some high temperature clay based paint from them. Can't recall the name at the moment.

I also suggest you try and get commercial sand for the molds it much better & easier than making your own! But with that said making your own green sand is sooooo much cheaper :) - Brian

I built it pretty close to standard; the only "improvement" I made was to locate the tuyere in the bottom center of the furnace, rather than in the side. My limited research made me think that might work a little better, but who knows. The lining cured up fine with no cracks.
