WASHINGTON TO RESUME FORMAL MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD CONTACTS:  The US will resume formal contacts with the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, a senior US source said last week. "It is within US interests to engage with all of the parties that are competing for parliament or the presidency," the source reported. The Muslim Brotherhood, while not actively involved in terrorism at present, has a very violent past and continues to support allied terror groups across the region. The Brotherhood also has a stated long-term goal of establishing an Islamic caliphate, first in Egypt, then stretching across the Middle East, and finally encompassing the whole world. But first, the Muslim Brotherhood wants to see Egypt return to a state of war with Israel, an entity that it sees as a blight on the Muslim Middle East. There is concern in Israel that if Washington can succumb to pressure to accept the Muslim Brotherhood, it may eventually op en its arms to Hamas and Hizballah, too.  Both of these terrorist groups also wield considerable political clout in their respective societies. (Israel Today/Reuters)  Founded by the Sufi schoolteacher Hassan al-Banner in 1928, the Muslim Brotherhood is the world's largest, most influential political Islamist group.  It poses a political threat in a number of Arab nations, including Egypt and Jordon.  The Brotherhood assassinated Anwar Sadat in 1981 for making peace with the hated "Zionist entity."  It also assassinated Egypt`s prime minister in 1948 and attempted to assassinate President Nasser in 1954. The Brotherhood  supports Hizballah`s war against the Jews.  Brotherhood leader Mahdi Akef declared he was "prepared to send 10,000 jihad fighters immediately to fight at the side of Hizballah" during Hizballah`s war against Israel in 2006. The Brotherhood glorified Osama bin Laden and mourned his death.&nb sp; Hamas is a "wing of the Muslim Brotherhood," according to the Hamas Charter. The Charter calls for the murder of Jews, the "obliteration" of Israel and its replacement with an Islamist theocracy. The Hamas terrorist organization which rules the Gaza Strip has held kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit captive for five years and repeatedly targets Israel with projectiles. Muslim Brotherhood leaders have said that  "as far as the movement is concerned, Israel is a Zionist entity occupying holy Arab and Islamic lands...and we will get rid of it no matter how long it takes."
EGYPT'S PRO-DEMOCRACY ACTIVISTS FEEL THEIR GRIP SLIPPING: Sensing the revolution that overthrew President Hosni Mubarak is slipping from their grasp, activists and opposition groups are pressuring the ruling military council to postpone Egypt's elections in September amid fears Islamists and members of the former regime will gain too much power. There is a renewed push to draft a new constitution before the parliamentary elections so that no political bloc, especially the Muslim Brotherhood, will have unchecked influence to set the laws of the land. (LA Times)
MUSLIM MICKEY CAUSES A FUROR IN EGYPT: Hamas had no problem drafting Mickey Mouse – thinly disguised as "Farfur" the mouse - to indoctrinate toddlers in Gaza to join the jihad against Israel. However, Muslims in Egypt have called a boycott against the Christian Copt owner of a communications company who "insulted" Islam by dressing Mickey up in Muslim garb. Fifteen lawyers are suing businessman Naguib Sawaris for publicizing a photo of Mickey Mouse wearing a white robe and a beard, together with an image of Minnie Mouse wearing a full-face veil. The lawyers, along with dozens of Muslim clerics, have called for Egyptians to cut their contracts with Sawiris' Mobinil and Orascom cellphone companies.  Sawaris issued an apology via his Twitter account. The apology however has failed to calm tensions. Naguib Sawaris' family is considered one of the wealthiest in Egypt. Sawaris was very active in the cam paign to oust Hosni Mubarak; an avowed secularist, he founded the Free Egyptian political party, which plans to run in the upcoming elections. (INN)
EGYPTIAN SCHOOLS TEACH THAT JEWS, CHRISTIANS ARE INFIDELS: Egypt's schools present Islam as the "only true faith," and believers in other religions - including Coptic Christians - as infidels. Such was the conclusion of the Institute for Monitoring Peace and Cultural Tolerance in School Education, a Jerusalem-based think-tank that presented a new report last week at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. (J.Post) In recent months there have been numerous murders visited upon the Coptic Christian community - which comprises some 10% of the 83 million Egyptian population – by the country's Muslim majority. Churches have been burned and other property destroyed in an attempt to wipe out the minority population. Continue to pray for the safety and protection of the persecuted Coptic Christian community in Egypt. Also pray there will be wide-sweeping reforms in hate materials included in text books used across the M uslim world to indoctrinate children with lies and incitement to future violence against Jews and Christians.
JORDAN'S MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD LEADER CALLS FOR OUSTER OF PM: The leader of Jordan's largest Islamist opposition group has called on people to topple the country's prime minister as 2,000 protesters took to the streets demanding he resign. Muslim Brotherhood leader Hamam Saeed told nearly 500 people in a speech Friday that if Jordanians want "freedom," they must "rise against their corrupt" prime minister. Jordan has been rocked by four months of street protests pressing for economic and political reforms and inspired by uprisings elsewhere in the Arab world. The Muslim Brotherhood has made waves as of late, with rumors that the US is engaging in dialogue with the Islamist group in Egypt. (Ha'aretz)
LEBANESE MINISTER CONFIRMS NAMES OF SUSPECTS IN HARIRI ASSASSINATION: Lebanese Interior Minister Marwan Charbel officially confirmed the names of four suspects involved in the 2005 assassination of PM Rafik Hariri. The names of four suspects revealed by local media are the same as those mentioned in the warrants of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. A key Hizballah ally has warned there could be civil strife in Lebanon now the international tribunal has officially accused Hizballah's members of carrying out the murder of Hariri. (AP)
FORMER LEBANON PM SAYS HIZBALLAH INDICTMENTS A HISTORIC MOMENT: Former Lebanon Prime Minister Saad Hariri, son of assassinated Rafik Hariri, lauded the indictments handed to Hizballah officials by the UN-backed tribunal probing Hariri's 2005 assassination, calling it a "historic moment."  The handover of the indictments to Lebanese prosecutor general Saeed Mirza was made during a meeting with three judges from the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, which has given Lebanon 30 days to respond.  Saad Hariri warned the new Hizballah-led cabinet that it must abide by Lebanon's commitments toward the international tribunal. Shortly after the indictments were released, many Lebanese security forces were deployed in Beirut and carried out patrols to guard against violence. The tribunal has long been a point of contention between Lebanon's rival political parties. On January 12, 2011 Hizballah terrorists and their allies toppled the We stern-backed government of Saad Hariri over his refusal to stop the tribunal in probing his father's murder. (Ha'aretz)  "Seek the Lord, all you meek of the earth who have upheld His justice. Seek righteousness, seek humility. It may be that you will be hidden in the day of the Lord's anger."  Zeph 2:3
VIOLENT PROTESTS ACROSS SYRIA: Hundreds of thousands of protesters flooded cities around Syria on Friday in what activists described as the largest outpouring against the regime of President Bashar Assad and a powerful message of the opposition's resolve. At least 24 people were killed in various clashes, activists said. The wildfire rage - flaring in dozens of places at the same time - further strained the resources of Assad's security forces and military as they also try to choke off a refugee wave into Turkey. The centerpiece of the latest protests - the central city of Hama - brings further complications for the government. Security forces moved outside Hama in early June after shootings that left 65 people dead, and now the streets appear fully under the sway of the opposition with an estimated 300,000 people gathering Friday in the central square. The protest surge Friday appeared to dwarf recent weeks as Assad's forces tried to wear down the opposition with relentless brutality. Syrian rights groups say more than 1,400 people have been killed, most of them unarmed protesters, since mid-March.  Some 10,497 Syrian refugees remain in Turkey.  US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Friday warned Syrian President Bashar Assad that he will face increased organized resistance if changes are not made.  (Fox News)
SENATE PASSES RESOLUTION THREATENING TO SUSPEND AID TO PALESTINIANS:  The US Senate has passed a resolution threatening to suspend financial assistance to the Palestinian Authority if its leaders "persist in efforts to circumvent direct negotiations by turning to the UN or other international bodies," and called on US President Barack Obama to veto a UN vote on unilateral recognition of a Palestinian state. "Palestinian efforts to gain recognition of a state outside direct negotiations demonstrates absence of a good faith commitment to peace negotiations, and will have implications for continued United States aid," the resolution declares. It also calls for the Palestinian unity government to "publicly and formally forswear terrorism, accept Israel's right to exist, and reaffirm previous agreements made with the Government of Israel."  (Ha'aretz)

(Background: Approximately a year ago, Rabbi Dov Lior, venerated Chief Rabbi of Kiryat Arba, gave his approbation on a book on the Jewish laws of war written by Rabbi Yitzchak Shapira. Among other issues, the book deals with the legal ramifications of the Israeli army taking action to kill terrorists even when enemy civilians may also be killed as a result. Rabbi Shapira cites numerous Jewish law sources to prove that this is permissible. The Left immediately accused Rabbi Shapira and the rabbis who gave their approbation on his book of incitement to murder. On Monday, Rabbi Lior was arrested and questioned. Heated demonstrations by the Rabbi's students ensued. Sheli K.)

If you want to know the real obstacle to Israeli-Palestinian peace, take a look at what Israel's "peace partner" is doing in the Balata refugee camp near Nablus. Taysir Nasrallah, a senior member of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah party who is currently director-general of the Nablus governor's office, gave Haaretz reporter Avi Issacharoff a tour of Balata's seven-year-old community center this week. And while the term "community center" evokes images of peaceful, wholesome activity, what's actually going on there, by Nasrallah's own proud account, is anything but:

"We give the kids courses on the right of return and teach them that the Israelis stole their lands. We've sent hundreds of camp children into Israel to see the villages and towns that were taken from us. We took them to Jaffa, Ramle.

"Our message is that without a doubt they will return to the places from which they were driven out," he says.

Jaffa and Ramle aren't West Bank settlements; they are towns in pre-1967 Israel. And these are the locales Israel's "peace partner" is teaching Palestinian children to consider their own. Indeed, Issacharoff reported, Nasrallah's "dream is to have the [community] center move to Jaffa when the day comes"; hence its name: the Jaffa Center. Moreover, children are regularly assigned presentations involving a map of Israel, but "for them it has always been and remains the map of Palestine."

Then there's the fact the children are being taught "Israelis stole their lands" – in other words, that Jews have no right to a state in any portion of what is today Israel; they are thieves who must be stripped of their ill-gotten gains. That's hardly a message conducive to peaceful coexistence.

Nor is the effort to indoctrinate them into demanding a "right of return" – a euphemism for flooding pre-1967 Israel with 4.8 million Palestinian refugees and their descendants who, together with Israel's 1.6 million Arab citizens, would outnumber its 5.8 million Jews and turn the Jewish state into a second Palestinian one (the first being the judenrein Palestinian state slated for the West Bank and Gaza).

And remember, this isn't Hamas conducting these indoctrination sessions: It's Israel's "peace partner," the "moderate" Fatah-led Palestinian Authority. Moreover, the PA is targeting precisely those youths it sees as future leaders. Just this week, Issacharoff reported, 35 children completed a leadership course at the center.

It ought to be obvious peace will never be possible as long as even Palestinian "moderates" insist Jews have no right to statehood in any part of this land, that Palestinians should seek to obtain pre-1967 Israel as well as the West Bank and Gaza, and that pre-1967 Israel should become another Arab-majority state instead of a Jewish one. Indeed, this is obvious to most Israelis; that's why Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu keeps reiterating that Palestinian recognition of Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state is the key to peace.

Unfortunately, most Westerners still don't seem to get it, and that's precisely why all their efforts to broker a deal keep failing. To solve any problem, you first have to acknowledge its existence.

http://jewishleadership.blogspot.com/2011/06/art-of-negotiation.html

Did you see Gershon Baskin's column, A guide to September (Jerusalem Post, June 28, 2011)? He is a regular writer for the Jerusalem Post whose column usually promotes a Left-leaning agenda. With this particular essay, he summarizes a recent New York Times op-ed piece (Buying into Palestinian statehood, June 24, 2011) to support his own plan for a Palestinian state: the UN should first declare that a new state of Palestine will be created with June 4, 1967 (pre-war) borders, and then declare that this new Palestine, upon its creation, will negotiate with Israel for agreed-upon land swaps (see Baskin's article for all of his details). The plan clearly builds on US President Obama's announcement in late May that Israel should retreat to pre-1967 borders before negotiations begin for a two-state arrangement, but adds other details, including a negotiation time-table, a UN component and a Declaration of Peace which both parties would sign. Mr Baskin, like all of his brethren on Israel's Left, makes his own two-state proposal sound easy and straight-forward.

He is a good writer.

But in reality, this proposal is neither easy nor straight-forward.

In fact, this proposal is too seriously flawed to work: once Israel surrenders land and goes back to pre-1967 lines—before negotiations even begin-- the negotiations might be over. Period. Having won those borders without yielding anything in return, the PA will be tempted to stonewall; for once Israel retreats to 'Auschwitz' borders and the leadership of the new Palestine tours their new military high ground above Israel's population centers, they may conclude that negotiation is no longer necessary to address their grievances against Israel. Why? As recently as May, 2011, local Arab TV viewers were reminded (in Arabic) that Jews have been ingathered into Israel as part of a divine plan that would give the Arab people the honor of annihilating Jews in a great massacre —and when Arab leaders can finally look down on Israel from the mountain range above our coastal plain, where approximately 80% of our population lives, they could easily remember those words and have no interest in further negotiation.

Indeed, I would suggest that, given Hamas' dedication to Israel's destruction—and given the omnipresent hatred of Israel in Arab media and mosque— this is exactly how we should expect Hamas/Fatah to react upon standing on their new military high ground. Anyone who does not understand this should watch Arab TV for the next 60 days.

The Baskin peace proposal, like all two-state proposals, reminds me of something Yehuda Avner wrote in his book, The Prime Ministers (The Toby Press, 2010) about a speech he had crafted for Golda Meir in September 1973, to address contemporary European interest in creating peaceful co-existence between Arab and Jew in the Middle East (Avner quotes from European statesman Jean Monnet):

Peace depends not only on treaties and promises. It depends essentially upon the creation of conditions which, if they do not change the nature of men, at least guide their behaviour towards each other in a peaceful direction (p.220).

All of the two-state proposals I have seen are not only built on promises, they absolutely ignore the conditions Avner references—conditions that must be created if two nations are to live together in peace. If the Left truly wishes to propose a viable peace for Arab and Jew, they would be wise to spend their time discussing what these conditions should look like; because right now, the only 'conditions' we see the Arab creating for Israel have nothing to do with peace and everything to do with killing Jews.

The Left seems obsessed with 'peace' but appears to think of peace primarily as an abstract that is not affected by hate. As Avner reminds us, peace is not simply a piece of paper filled with promises. Peace is how people think about each other, talk about one another and treat each other. For anyone to claim that peace will be ours if only we retreat to pre-1967 borders before negotiations even begin, and before these conditions of peace have been implemented, is being disingenuous at best. Such peace would be an empty peace built upon empty promises. Once Israel pulls back to those borders, the only thing we might be able to negotiate at that point will not be a final peace, but land swaps which, essentially, means that Israel could be asking Hamas/Fatah to give back to us some of the land we have just given away to them.

This is what the Left calls 'negotiations' for peace? We surrender land to an enemy who swears to kill us and then negotiate with them to get some of the land back?

It would appear that the Left is either cunningly anti-Israel or they need to go back to the drawing board.

Which is it? As Bob Dylan once said, "You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows".

I am on a mini-vacation so posting will be light for the next couple of days. Comment with the latest from the never ending Flotilla Comedy Cavalcade!

Things keep getting funnier in Flotilla Funland.

Greece arrested the captain of the "Audacity of Hope" for endangering the lives of the passengers by going out without permission.

Remember how the flotidiots accused Israel of sabotaging the Irish boat in the harbor in Turkey? This accusation even made it into the Huffington Post as a headline story. Well, it turns out that there was no sabotage, as Turkey's Hurriyet reported.

Here's an unintentionally hilarious video that shows the ridiculous self-righteousness of the flotidiots as they try to convince the world that their Cause is so Righteous that any Laws that stop them are Immoral.

Hamas is exercising all the political muscle that any terror group can muster:
The Hamas movement on Friday denounced Greece after its coastguard intercepted a US vessel which tried to sail to Gaza to break Israel's blockade of the coastal strip.

In a statement issued by its political leadership in Damascus, the group described the action as "inhumane" and said Greece had played into Israeli hands.

"This is inhumane action, is contrary to international regulations and norms," said the statement by Hamas, a copy of which was obtained by AFP.

"Barring this aid from reaching the Gaza Strip is done as a result of pressure imposed by the Zionist occupiers," referring to Israel.

Hamas also called on the EU parliament and human rights organizations "to put pressure on the Greek government" to allow a planned flotilla of aid boats to set sail from Greece to Gaza.
Well, both the Israel haters from the West and those from the Islamic world agree that there is nothing more important than having a half dozen ships deliver letters that have already been emailed to Gazans. Who can disagree?
