John Greyson, Canadian Gaza flotilla activist, responds to recent YouTube video claiming homosexuals are not welcome on board the flotilla; tells Haaretz video is a 'ridiculously transparent attempt to vilify the flotilla'.

John Greyson, a Canadian film director and Gaza flotilla activist told Haaretz in an interview that homosexuality is not a barrier to participating in the upcoming voyage, and in fact he and other flotilla participants have created an "unofficial queer caucus" on board the ship.

Greyson's remarks come in light of a recent YouTube video in which a man related to viewers that Gaza flotilla organizers told him that he could not take part in the mission because he is a homosexual.

The video, nearly three minutes long, featured a young man who called himself Marc and claimed to be a gay and human rights activist. The man recounted a story in which he asked the organizers of the upcoming Gaza flotilla to join their mission, and claimed that his request was allegedly denied on the grounds that participation of the gay and lesbian group with which he was affiliated would not serve the flotilla's "interests".

Greyson, a 51-year-old Canadian who is gay and has directed many films about queer life, said he was shocked when he heard about the video. "At first I laughed, then I got mad, and then laughed again," Greyson told Haaretz on board the "Tahrir" ship on Tuesday.

The Canadian director related how not only is he part of what he calls an "unofficial queer caucus" aboard the Tahrir, but every boat participating in the upcoming flotilla has queers."This is common sense and human nature," Greyson said, adding "who knows, maybe when we get back there will be more queers."

"One of the hats that I wear on this boat is 'queers against Israeli apartheid,'" the Canadian director said. He continued, saying that they have also work with Palestinian homosexuals who have not yet come out entirely.

When asked about the possible validity of the YouTube video, which reports have revealed to be linked to the Prime Minister's office, a report that it has neither confirmed nor denied, Greyson told Haaretz that it "is another ridiculously transparent attempt to vilify the flotilla."

Greyson, teaches film at York University in Toronto. In 2009 he canceled a screening of his documentary "Covered" at the Toronto International Film Festival as a protest against the screening of a series of movies about Tel Aviv marking the city's centennial.

Perhaps Ms. Fuller should visit the family of Daniel Viflic in Israel. He was the 16-year-old boy who was killed when Palestinians fired an anti-tank missile at his school bus. Somehow I don't think they would feel much like doing the 'Hokey Pokey' with her.

Maybe she should talk to the residents Sedro and other communities in Israel bordering Gaza about their experiences under years of constant bombardment. Better yet she should wait outside during the next rocket or mortar attack and see what happens.

If she does ever get to Gaza aboard the 'Audacity of Hype,' she should not fret if she had forgotten to pack anything because there are now two luxury malls in Gaza full of western goods. They were built with apparently unavailable construction materials and stocked with unavailable items.

Oh and that pesky naval embargo is such an imposition to the Iranians. They have to smuggle what they can into Gaza to their client Hamas instead of being able to freely offload large quantities of long range missiles from ships directly into Gaza.

If she is so concerned with human rights, Ms. Fuller should speak with Hamas about their progressive feelings on the rights of women and religious minorities.

It seems that even the Turks having orchestrated the flotilla last year have backed off from a repeat performance now that it has lost its propaganda value.

But wait...we must not let the facts cloud Ms. Fuller's left wing anti-Israel agenda. In her eyes, Israelis are the evil 'oppressors' and can do no good and the poor eternally victimized Palestinians are the 'oppressed' and can do no wrong. Nobody has any responsibility for their situation in the world and the embrace of terrorism has no consequences. Despite her seemingly good intentions, she is nothing more than a foolish tool of cynical, murderous terrorists.

If you wish to remove this hope of a better quality of life to these people, go ahead and boycott Israel.

Please tell anxious mothers that they shouldn't use this device because of your passionate cause.

Boycotts often affect research.

A new research center in Israel hopes to throw light on brain disorders such as depression and Alzheimer's disease.

The Joseph Sangol Neuroscience Center in the Sheba Medical Center at Tel HaShomer Hospital aims to bring thousands of scientists and doctors to focus on brain research.

A researcher at Israel's Ben Gurion University has succeeded in creating human monoclonal antibodies which can neutralise the highly contageous smallpox virus without inducing the dangerous side effects of the exisiting vaccine.

Two Israelis received the 2004 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Doctors Ciechanover and Hershko's research and discovery of one of the human cells most important cyclical processes will lead the way to DNA repair, control of newly produced proteins, and immune defense systems.

The Movement Disorder Surgery program at Israel's Hadassah Medical Center has successfully eliminated the physical manifestations of Parkinson's disease in a select group of patients with a deep brain stimulation technique.

But let's not get too obsessed with medical research, there are other ways you can make a personal sacrifice with your anti-Israel boycott.

So, set a personal example. Throw away your computer!

The Pentium NMX Chip technology was designed at Intel in Israel.

Both the Pentium 4 microprocessor and the Centrium processor were entirely designed, developed, and produced in Israel.

Voice mail technology was developed in Israel.

The technology for the AOL Instant Messenger ICQ was developed in 1996 in Israel by four young Israeli whiz kids.

Both Microsoft and Cisco built their only R.& D facilities outside the US in Israel.

So, due to your complete boycott of anything Israeli, you now have poor health and no computer.

But your bad news does not end there. Get rid of your cellular phone!

Cell phone technology was also developed in Israel by Motorola, which has its biggest development center in Israel.

Most of the latest technology in your mobile phone was developed by Israeli scientists.

These immigrants come in search of democracy, religious freedom or expression, economic opportunity, and quality of life.

Believe it or not, Israel is the only country in the world which had a net gain in the number of trees last year.

So, you can vilify and demonize the State of Israel. You can continue your silly boycott, if you wish. But I wish you would consider the consequences, and the truth.

Think of the massive contribution that Israel is giving to the world, including the Palestinians - and to you - in science, medicine, communications, security.

Pro rata for population we are making a greater contribution than any other nation on earth.

We can't be all bad..."
