Subject: [gingery_machines] Finally finished the Gingery Shaper!!!!

Finally finished the Shaper, and so far so good. But I gotta say after building the Lathe & the Shaper I have noticed that aluminum can be a pathetic material. When it comes to bearings, or screw threads that will have a lot of force applied to it aluminum sucks! The screw threads strip out far too soon, and bearings break, or ream out to fast! Another design flaw I've noticed in these machines is "jamming" two screws or thread rods together with a coupling nut. The first time you get a jam (and you will) one of the thread rods will spin loose. I've found the best way to fix that is by drilling 1/8" holes through the coupling nut & thread rod & install spring pins. Anyway, that's my bitch about these machines, but it will not stop me from building another lathe & the Milling Machine :)
