Dave,
I have to admit that I have not read the manual in a long time but just reviewed it. They state that the "scale plate" goes +/- 45 degrees with zero degrees defined as the face of the compound perpendicular to the face of the wheel. In order to grind a 60 degree included angle, I need to be able to get to +/- 60 degrees on their scale or +/-30 degrees on my scale. In other words, their scale is 90 degrees off from what I need to grind threading cutters.
Just to be sure, I again tried to set the scale plate using my fish. Can't be done unless the fish "stands" on their compound.
Is there something missing in what I'm thinking?
My wheels are green. Rod suggested a source for aluminum oxide wheels. I do plan to only grind HSS on this grinder.
Rick

Rick good job. just one thing, the first picture you show is the wrong way to use the original tool support. Look at the manual that came with the grinder. It's use is the same as yours. For short tools I made an extention for the tool so it's not too far away for the grinding wheel.
Someone mentioned the wheels are soft. Are they green(silicon carbide)? If so they are for grinding carbide tool bits and will appear soft if grinding hss tools or mild steel. Carbide tools will destroy the gray or white wheels(aluminum oxide) just as quickly.
