Hi Eric,

The use of rotary encoders is well known - using them in traditional hobbist tables is not, as the encoders are too expensive and the low-end mechanincs aren't the best.

That said, using a small encoder attached to the table is possible. The encioders are getting cheaper and have good resolution. The hiccup is to make the assemble with no backlash and continuous.
