Do you feel the modified drive train that you built for your machine might have anything to do with how it works? I would think trying to solve the belt slippage trouble might help, and maybe checking for drag in the movement areas, and placement of the cutter?
I suspect you cannot compare a homebrew machine with a commercial machine, due to the aluminum castings! I did not find my machine to be a problem but then it was made mostly from ZA-12 alloy which added quite a bit of weight and strength. I'm using wheelium to build my second machine so hopefully that will work?
