Here is what I have for the write-up for the sand casting so far. But
first off, what is a core plate(s), I didn't see anything on Google.

Core plates

two sheets of clay depth: ¼ inch length: 3 inches width: 6
inches <- This is the "pattern". The "pattern"
equates to what you will be making via the green sand casting method.

flask length: depth: 3 ½ inches 12 inches width: 12 inches

molding board = the board that the pattern is placed on initially

bottom board = the board opposite the molding board

cope = top section of mould , drag = bottom section of mould

Run the vent wire (stiff stick/twig) into the drag six times over each
pattern. Dig the vent wire almost to the pattern but not actually to
the pattern. Rub in the bottom board and roll the drag over. Now, the
molding board is removed. Dust the entire face of the drag with
parting. Put the cope on top of the drag. Press a six inch long sprue
pin in between the two patterns to ½ inch depth. Fill, ram, and vent
the cope just as was done with the drag.

Hit the sprue pin and remove it. Remove the cope and place it on
it's side behind the drag. Swab around the pattern to strengthen
it. I have to figure out a way to draw (move) the pattern since I
won't have screws*. (any ideas?) Cut the gate. (stone tools)
I'm confused about the next step.** After the funnel part or
whatever is done, then hold the cope horizontal somewhere not over the
drag so the loose particles will fall out. Next, put the cope on top of
the drag and we are ready to pour!

*drawing the pattern ideas - attach some natural glue/sticky substance
such as tree glue or animal hide glue to a stick. Use the sticky stick
to draw the pattern from the drag. What do you think, that should
suffice?

**He states to "cut or press the top of the sprue opening to a
funnel shape and swab the bottom of the opening to round the edge."
What does this mean? The sprue pin I'll be using will either be
clay wire that I made or a carved bamboo or wooden stick/branch...

Ball Crank handle

This is where I am stuck at. Gingery lists the dimensions for the
pattern and directs to make the pattern out of wood. I am assessing my
options at that point. A. I could make it via primitive hand tools
meaning a lot of scraping and carving. But that would maybe take
forever. B. I could make a wooden hand lathe out of primitive tools
and use that to make the wood pattern. C. I could make the pattern
out of clay by hand. I am thinking that I should go with option C.
I'm confused on how to measure/determine fractions with the clay
ruler I mentioned making earlier. I am chatting with a friend of mine
about this.

As always, your thoughts?
