WDYT (What Do You Think)
Provide your thoughts with first name and State of residence

Question for 2/3
Do you believe - if there is a push for legislation to address illegal immigration
will it be by the States for the Federal Government?

Question for 2/10
With the recent death of a missionary - Nancy Davis - in Mexico and our continued
warnings concerning traveling to Mexico...  Why do you believe Americans continue
to travel to Mexico - not enough coverage of the warnings, do not take the threat
seriously, believe it will not happen to them or another reason?

Lohmer, Kieffer join Republican push for photo voter ID
ST. PAUL -- Legislative Republicans who campaigned last fall saying they want Minnesotans to produce photo identification cards before being allowed to vote have followed through with bills likely to be debated soon.
Rep. Mary Kiffmeyer of Big Lake, who was the state's chief elections official eight years as secretary of state, said that her bill combined the photo ID requirement with providing state-funded computers to most voting precincts.
"It moves us into the 21st century," she said.
Reps. Kathy Lohmer, R-Lake Elmo, and Andrea Kieffer, R-Woodbury, are co-sponsors on the bill.
"Our voters must have faith in our election process," Lohmer said in a Wednesday news release. "This bill has proven results as other states have stepped into the 21st century and used the benefits of technology to strengthen election results and voter integrity."
Democrats, led by Secretary of State Mark Ritchie, blasted the measure, saying it will be expensive and there is no indication that there is any significant voter fraud that needs correcting

Texas Lawmakers File Far-Ranging Immigrant Bills

The voter ID legislation passed by the Texas Senate on Wednesday night may be controversial, but it's a familiar debate, as is the issue of "sanctuary cities." Gov. Rick Perry has declared both to be "emergency items" that demand immediate attention by the Legislature.

Less well known but no less controversial are many of the provisions found in more than three dozen immigration-related bills filed so far in the early days of the 82nd legislative session.

Bills would prevent illegal immigrants from getting state licenses

Washington could soon leave its place in an exclusive club of states that still grant driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.
More than half a dozen bills have been introduced in the Legislature to require those applying for a driver's license to first prove their legal presence in this country.
Who gets or should get a license to drive in Washington has been a hot-button topic for some time, but never before have so many bills been filed in the Legislature to address it. And for the first time, Democrats are authoring a few of the measures, making it far more likely that one might actually pass

Senate Proposal Would Amend Constitution to Restrict Birthright Citizenship

Two Republican senators have introduced a constitutional amendment that would prohibit the children of illegal immigrants from gaining automatic U.S. citizenship unless certain conditions are met.
The move by Sens. Rand Paul, R-Ky., and David Vitter, R-La., follows a proposal in Arizona challenging the constitutional right known as "birthright citizenship."
Under U.S. law, anybody born on U.S. soil is considered a citizen. The proposal in Congress would amend the Constitution so that children born in the United States are only considered automatic citizens if one parent is a U.S. citizen, one parent is a legal immigrant, or one parent is an active member of the Armed Forces. They could also follow the traditional naturalization process to attain citizenship.
