Curtis,
Welcome!
The Gingery series is a great place to start. Book 1 is an absolute must
read. I then jumped to the drill press book and many years later to the
shaper book.
My hobby consists of machining, casting, welding, and writing. You can find
most of my articles on metal working at
http://rick.sparber.org/mw.htm
including details of how I made my shaper at

I welcome questions and comments. We are all here to help each other.
Countless generous people have helped me and I doubt I will ever be able to
fully pay that forward.
Rick

Hello Everyone,
I have been interested in making my own stuff for quite sometime now.
Never having had much experience with lathes or mills or anything in their
genre, I had no starting point to work with. By accident I found out about
David Gingery and so started searching for everything I could find, so far
I'm just trying to get information, as I'm about to have surgery and will be
unable to do anything for at least a few months. I might try to get the
series of books written by Gingery to read while I'm healing, but as far as
getting out to do anything hands on will have to wait until at least April.
So if there are any nooks and crannies of info that I might need to go
with everything else in his books that you guys have already worked out I
would appreciate it!
Thanks. By the way if it matters, I'm in the Tulsa Oklahoma area and my user
name is fundreamer1
