Thanks for the welcome, I was actually thinking of going with the waste oil furnace, I just need a good diagram to follow on building one.

Welcome! I hope your surgery goes well. The books are a hands on
approach, so they will make you want to get out and do it.
A couple of suggestions, though.
1. Skip the charcoal and go straight to propane or natural gas for
your furnace. Most hobby casters use propane.
2. Buy ready made refractory, if you can. It will save you in the
long run.
3. Buy ready made Petrobond foundry sand if you can. This is an oil
bonded sand and will save much frustration.
These three things are what most casters do eventually. Saves time and
money to start that way. Search the net for Reil burner. This is a
propane furnace burner that is easy and cheap to build.
You may also want to join castinghobby yahoo group. There is a member
map on both groups so you can see who has added themselves. There are
several people in OK.
