Just understand when you use calipers you are giving up some accuracy.
Typical calipers are only designed to be accurate to about .004" (even
the good brands).

Compare by measuring something with both calipers and a micrometer. I
have a Fowler digital caliper that consistently is .002" different from
my mic. My harbor freight digital can be .004" or right on the money,
but I can never tell until I compare. (erratic)

On the other hand, I have a Harbor freight dial caliper that is almost
dead on all across the scale! I use it to verify Mic reading to make
sure I read the mic right.

One problem with calipers is when you want to be right, you squeeze
harder and this can flex them, killing the accuracy. I find my best
readings are obtained by consistent pressure and rocking to get the
lowest number.

Again, comparing to a mic. will teach you to use your calipers better.
