From what I can gather from my metrology friends, the real value of these mic tests is to know when there is damage. Except for setting zero there isn't anything else a user can do. I'm sure they would toss my no-name Enco mic in the scrap metal bin.

I updated the article to version 2. It now includes a discussion about testing the anvil and spindle contact surfaces.

Now you got me to wonder how accurate the mikes I have are.
I reacon I will have to test them.
Some of the larger ones that read funny with the standard that came with them.
The set of gage blocks I bought sounds like the thing I need.
