Half trillion euros is spent each year on global higher education. Study-abroad and other international programs are a growing portion of it. The three major sources of revenue are entrepreneurial colleges, international institutes and schools, and third-party providers, which offer overseas study programs, student recruitment, and other services. Study abroad could be made affordable for everyone and open the floodgates to multicultural participation.
Private colleges have found ways to generate huge profits. They do this by charging full tuition to participate in a study-abroad program, and using a portion of it to support outsourced services on behalf of students and to pay for other expenditures. Their revenue far exceeds cost, but they provide top-quality services to students.
The only obstacle to study-abroad is the stupid regulation and bureaucracy of host countries. Even though most colleges would prefer their students to go to Greece, the cradle of democracy and Western culture, the Greek Ministry of Education creates an infinite red tape, making the life of foreign students and professors miserable.
Basil Venitis points out the Greek Ministry of Education, George Orwell's Ministry of Truth or Minitrue in Newspeak, harasses all private colleges and their professors. Professors are required to submit myriad papers certified by lawyers and pay heavy fees. Visiting Minitrue is a very humiliating experience as the building is open for the public only from 12 to 1:30pm, with infinite queues and wild goose chase from room to room. After a professor submits an application to Minitrue, he might have to wait up to fifty days for an answer!
Venitis notes that Fourth Reich(EU) has penalized Greece many times for harassing its private colleges, but Orwellian Greece continues the harassment, because it's a matter of its damned socialistic principles. Minitrue has created a special abusive office, the Bureau of Post-Lyceum Education, whose only function is to harass private colleges! Even though the Greek private colleges are much better than the public colleges, the Greek Parliament, aka the Grand Brothel on Syntagma Square, passed a law that graduates of public colleges should get higher salaries than the graduates of private colleges! Hang the 300 Graecokleptocrats in front of the Greek Parliament now!
In October 2009, the new socialist minister of Minitrue, Anna Diamantopoulou, canceled all licenses of private colleges, just because they were issued by the previous conservative minister, Aris Spiliotopoulos! This sadomasochistic siren move put all private colleges in a lot of trouble for new applications for new licenses and a lot of expenses for new fees and new kickbacks.
Evripidis Stylianidis, Spiliotopoulos's predecessor, was such a sadomasochist freak that he also demanded all professors of private colleges to make myriad medical checkups, certified by lawyers and State medical auditors! He also dictated the State auditors to not release the checkup results, unless the professor presents a certificate of military service! But many professors are draft dodgers; they could not serve, because they were studying for their Ph.D. abroad.
Marietta Giannakou, Stylianidis's predecessor, installed a beauty parlor next to her office just for her! Giannakou also got furniture for her office that is more expensive than the furniture of the Royal House of Saudi Arabia! Giannakou is infamous for approving Turcophile textbooks in all Greek schools. This Rubenesque also enjoyed hankypanky with her state chauffeur. Minitrue has just spent 200,000 euros for luxury curtains in its office! Spending taxpayers' hard-earned money is a piece of cake for Minitrue!
Venitis asserts that Greek private college licensure is an immoral exercise of force, an overly burdensome restraint on Greek higher education, a violation of the right to liberty, a mill of kickbacks. Government is a guarantor of liberty and is compatible with liberty only if its range is adequately restricted to the preservation of economic freedom. One of the many reasons why Greek government licensure is incompatible with liberty, therefore, is because it is destructive of economic freedom. No other Ministry of Education in the whole world demands more licenses than Minitrue.
Any Greek professor has the natural right to pursue any means of providing for himself so long as in doing so he does not act fraudulently or otherwise violate the rights of others. The Graecokleptocrats mandated license for professors and colleges turns the Greek higher education upside down. It prohibits every Greek professor from producing in a given private college except for those who are granted the privilege of doing so by Graecokleptocrats, especially those who provide huge kickbacks to Graecokleptocrats who spread the cancer of socialism. Graecokleptocrats, in such a misery, absorb all individual rights unto themselves and then divvy up some of those rights in any number of ways that increase the flow of kickbacks to socialist Graecokleptocrats. Hang the 300 Graecokleptocrats in front of the Greek Parliament now!
Venitis notes that under a private college licensing system, such as we have today in Greece, if some professor attempts to exercise his natural right to provide for himself without Graecokleptocrats' nod of approval, which usually comes with kickbacks, that professor pays heavy fines and goes to jail. Imprisonment for supporting oneself in an honest and non-fraudulent manner which does not infringe on the rights of others just doesn't seem right. Preemptive protection is offensive in nature, and therefore, is itself a violation of natural rights. In a free society, it is only after fraud or another violation of rights takes place that the State has the right to intervene on behalf of the consumer. Burn the Greek Parliament, the Grand Brothel on Syntagma Square, now!
By means of the licensure power, socialist Graecokleptocrats can permit a professor to eat or they can condemn him to starve, unless he gives kickbacks to Graecokleptocrats. So long as Graecokleptocrats have the power to issue licenses to live, Greek professors cannot claim to be free, and living without freedom is not much of a life. Fortunately, Greeks still have a license to kill unsound and coercive Greek government measures at the polls, so let them use that license to vote in regaining their right to live. Hang the 300 Graecokleptocrats in front of the Greek Parliament now!
