Yes On 19, No on 23, California Propositions

I have voted by mail. Yes on 19 and No on 23. These are the main propositions that seem to be getting publicity. It was a toss up on 20 but I voted no. Yes on 21, no on 22, yes on 24, yes on 25, no on 26, and no on 27 although 27 I could have gone either way. I also voted for Jerry Brown for Governor, Barbra Boxer for Senate and Laura Richardson for the House, although I must admit I held my nose up with these votes. Why don't we have viable left wing candidates?

I voted for Green Party and Peace and Freedom Party candidates for several positions but I realize that I am throwing away my vote on all but the most local elections when I vote my party, I am a member of the Green party.

On the judges I didn't know what to vote. There is so little information out about them, I voted to keep them although I could have as easily voted to kick them all out.

Voting is not good Anarchist practice. Although some anarchists believe in voting on local issues as that could conceivably be real democracy. I vote as a good citizen should because it is there and even though it is certainly not the only way to exhibit my intent, it is one of the only ones legitimated by the system. That in itself makes voting suspect.

Certainly when we see astroturf groups like the Tea Party all of a sudden get blown up in the media into a movement where corporations can buy thousands of voters and encourage them to vote against their economic interests on the basis of jazzed up social concerns. These are fake issues of Flag, Mom and God, thrown together in an emotional smorgasbord with standing up for the troops no matter how fucked up the game plan may be. It makes one wonder why bother to vote at all? But I say we have to do it, if only to negate the votes of those Tea Party voters. But that only proves my point when there are only Repubocrats to vote for, where is the choice. We get fleased no matter which party we vote for.

Time for a real choice. Can we get that through the democratic process or is it simply a scam to keep us playing the game? Certainly with the system as it stands we have little hope for real change. Obama hardly made a difference and in many critical ways he simply continued the policies of the previous two administrations. Where is a Roosevelt? Where is a social revolution brewing to force the politicians to change? Certainly astroturf neo-fascism is not popular revolt. I don't care who calls it populism on the right. That right is wrong. Anyone can get riled up over flag waving emotionalism, but real issues of bread and butter, that is where we need to come up with real answers and as long as capitalism is the only way, there will be no alternative.
